Student-Athlete of the Week for October 27th thru November 1st
Varsity Cross Country Runners - Johnny Sanchez, Humberto Osuna, Mike Paz, Daniel Llamas, Raul Abundiz, Jesus Sanchez, and Octavio Lopez.
The varsity cross country team won the Fresno Unified School District Championship last Friday on 10-31-08.
Johnny Sanchez came in second with a time of 15:35, Humberto Osuna came in 4th with a time of 16:18, Mike Paz placed 5th with a time of 16:33, Daniel Llamas placed 7th with a time of 16:55, Raul Abundis came in 8th with a time of 16:55, Jesus Sanchez came in 9th with a time of 17:05, and Octavio Lopez placed 16th with a time of 17:49.
The boys cross country is getting it done in the classroom as well, with a 2.7 team GPA.
Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Cross Country Team for being The Student-Athletes of the Week!

Name: Eric Herrera
Varsity Football Linebacker - Eric Herrera
Eric Herrera was outstanding at the linebacker position last Friday night against the Sunnyside Wildcats. He led the defense team in stopping the Wildcat offense and holding them to only 14 points. He was in on several key stops for the Rough Riders! Eric is also getting it done in the classroom with a 2.89 GPA for the first quarter.

Student-Athletes of the Week for October 13th thru October 18th
Varsity Football Offensive Lineman - Joel Monsebais, Ivan Cortez, Jose Mares, Elias Sanchez, and Jesus Castillo.
Varsity football starting offensive lineman Joel Monsebais (gpa 2.66), Ivan Cortez (gpa 3.14), Jose Mares (gpa 3.18), Elias Sanchez (gpa 3.1), and Jesus Castillo (gpa 2.33) blocked and opened holes against the McLane Highlanders last Friday night. Their team effort and blocking allowed the Rough Riders to score 35 on the Highlanders. They are not only getting it done on the field , but also in the classroom.
Congratulations to Joel, Ivan, Jose, Elias, and Jesus!

Student-Athlete of the Week for October 6th thru October 11th
Varsity Football Player - Raymond Juarez
Raymond is a senior with a 2.44 gpa. Last Friday against the Mendota Aztecs he rushed for 198 yards and scored two touchdowns to help the Rough Riders beat the Aztecs 21 to 7. Raymond is one of the top running-backs in the valley and is a great role model.

Cross Country Runner - Johnny Sanchez
Johnny Sanchez took first place in the Atascadero Invitational last Saturday. Johnny's time of 16:32 set a new course record for the event. Johnny is also getting it done in the classroom maintaining a 3.5 gpa.

Freshman Cross Country Runner - Daniel Llamas
Daniel competed in the Sanger Invitational taking first place out of 135 runners. He also took first place in the Mt. Whitney Invitational beating 125 other runners. He currently has a 3.00 gpa.

Name: Paul Juarez
Junior Varsity Football Player - Paul Juarez
Paul is a 10th grader with a 2.89 gpa. Last Thursday, 09-11-08, he scored the only touchdown in the JV game as the Rough Riders beat the Cesar Chavez Titans 6 to 0. The JV team is now 2-0 for this year thanks to efforts like Paul's.

Raymond Juarez rushed for 207 yards and scored three touchdowns to help the Rough Riders beat the Granite Hills Grizzlies 45 to 13 on Friday, 09-19-08.

Frosh Football Player - Terrell Green
Terrell is a student in the Roosevelt Freshman Academy. Last Thursday, 09-04-08, he ran back two kickoff-returns for touchdowns before the Selma Bears got smart and started kicking away from him.
